I know I posted on these guys last week, but I was looking through the Hype Machine and discovered that this next track has yet to be posted. And by FAR, the chorus of this Rainy Monday rules all else in the land. Plus the Macgician and I cant get through a whole sitting of this song, becuase its just that good.

The Shiny Toy Guns — “Rainy Monday”

  1. This is great, thanks!

  2. I know!! Ive been listening to this song since october 2006 non stop!

  3. The band was founded in 2002 by bassist and keyboardist Jeremy Dawson and vocalist and guitarist Chad Petree who are now both in their 30’s. They had known each other for years growing up in Shawnee, Oklahoma and worked together on previous music projects such as Cloud2Ground and Slyder. Gregori Chad Petree had been involved with the short lived ‘cheesy’ Pop group PC Quest, and with the rock band Dangerous Insects. Dangerous Insects band provided Shiny Toy Guns with at least half of the songs for their current album ‘We Are Pilots’. After these projects, they went underground for a couple of years but continued making music together, until enlisting both vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and drummer Mikey Martin in 2004.

From 2002 to 2004 Jeremy Dawson and Gregori Chad Petree also embarked on organizing a ‘religious’ cult group. The two met Carah Faye Charnow when she was a troubled teen (under 18 years of age) and was attending meetings at their ‘unregistered’ and ‘undocumented’ religious cult organization that they had formed in Southern California. It was widely reported that Jeremy Dawson, and Gregori Chad Petree had illegally solicited donations from different sources in the State of California in order to fund and administer their cult organization (based on punk stylized dark arts worship and select bible passage review with self-serving re-interpretation of the bible.)

The duo ultimately recruited one of the cult’s troubled teens, Carah Faye Charnow to provide female vocals for the band Shiny Toy Guns, and took the young Carah Faye Charnow to Oklahoma where they photographed her naked in a swimming pool, and in other sexually promiscious positions in order to market their first album release ‘We Are Pilots’. The bands’ first album release ‘We Are Pilots’ on a record label (Stormwest International – January 2005 and also released on Sidecho Records – November 2005) features Carah Faye Charnow ‘nude’ in an Oklahoma swimming pool with a cloth loosely swathed over her body, inprinted on the album disc. Carah Faye Charnow reportedly commented on her myspace page in early 2005, quote “All the boys is Shiny Toy Guns, make me wet.”

In 2004 the band independently released their first version of the album ‘We Are Pilots’ and sold the CD as they toured. The bands first public performance was on October 24, 2004 in Oakland, California after two years of accumulating their song material, rehearsing and pressing their first CD for sale at their shows. The band has continued to tour since October 24, 2004 selling their album ‘We Are Pilots’ while on the road.

The band financed their costumes, photography, early videos, tranportation and other expenses through drummer Mike Martin’s family resources and through their record deals with Stormwest International, Sidecho Records, and McJames Music (the bands publishers since 2002, and a 15 year relationship with Chad Petree.) The bands current record label, Universal Music Group’ president was quoted as saying December 6, 2007 in a text message to keyboardist Jeremy Dawson “Congratulations, I’ll take that!” referencing Shiny Toy Guns album ‘We Are Pilots’ GRAMMY nomination (50th GRAMMY awards)

Shiny Toy Guns gained popularity locally in California as well as through their MySpace page. In January 2005, they released their first album We Are Pilots through record company Stormwest International. They began touring across America that summer in support of their album. They re-recorded and re-released through record company Sidecho We Are Pilots in November 2005, with a revised track list. In December 2005 through January/February 2006 they re-recorded, re-arranged, re-mixed, re-mastered and revised the ‘We Are Pilots’ CD track list again and released the CD on the Internet for digital download sales and full online streaming independently. They continued to tour extensively, and in June 2006, after extensive negotiations that had begun in November of 2005 they signed with Universal Records and released a finalized copy of We Are Pilots on October 17, 2006 which was a re-mixed, re-mastered version of the bands Internet released CD ‘We Are Pilots’ (v3) which had been available for digital download purchase in February, March, April, May 2006.

Shiny Toy Guns and Universal Records have continued to re-arrange, re-mix, and re-master the ‘We Are Pilots’ album and several different mixes/mastered versions have been released utilitzing the same album release date and information as the October 17, 2006 album release, prompting considerable confusion with fans, who believe the sole purpose of these new versions of the “We Are Pilots’ album were produced solely for the purpose of generating a sound for Shiny Toy Guns that is Electronic/Dance (GRAMMY award nomination category) as opposed to their original sound which was Indie, Rock, Synth-pop.

Shiny Toy Guns’ 2005/2006/2007 song “You Are the One” has its roots in Jeremy Dawson’s trance song “Neo”, put out under his “Slyder” moniker. The song “Neo” also known as the Shiny Toy Guns song “You Are The One” was licensed and approved for usage by the band in the game Grand Theft Auto III.

On October 29, 2007 Shiny Toy Guns (using the alias “The Shinys”) appeared on the children’s television series Yo Gabba Gabba!.[1].

They also appeared in the November 27, 2007 episode of My Super Sweet 16

On December 6, 2007, We Are Pilots received a Grammy Award nomination in the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album. [1]

It has been speculated that ‘Shiny Toy Guns’ album ‘We Are Pilots’ is not eligible for a GRAMMY nomination since the album had three previous releases prior to the October 17, 2006 Universal Records release ‘We Are Pilots’ (v3) and had been released by the band on the Internet for digital download sale and full online streaming prior to October 1, 2006) GRAMMY nominations for the 50th GRAMMY awards are for albums released from October 1, 2006 to September 30, 2007.

Carah Faye Charnow began playing keyboard and bass for several of the bands songs in 2006, she had no prior experience playing these instruments. She was taught how to play segments of the bands songs in order to give her something to do onstage during performances, when lead vocals are being provided by Chad Petree. The same holds true for Carah Faye Charnow’s drumming for the bands latest song ‘When Revelation Comes’ (2007) again Carah appearing to be playing an instrument of which she has no prior experience for the purpose of extolling onstage duties to Carah during songs where Chad Petree delivers the lead vocals.

Jeremy Dawson had no previous experience as a bass player. He began playing bass in 2006 during the bands live performances.

Carah Faye Charnow does not write or contribute to any of the songs by Shiny Toy Guns. Carah had no previous experience as a performer prior to joining Shiny Toy Guns. On her myspace page (2005) Carah Faye Charnow stated that her sexual orientation was ‘UNDECIDED’ leading to public speculation that she is Bi-sexual.

Drummer Mikey Martin does not write or contribute to any of the Shiny Toy Guns songs.

Prior to 2001 both Jeremy Dawson and Gregori Chad Petree had done vertually no songwriting.
Jeremy Dawson was a Deejay in the Oklahoma area
